New Year of Projects

A new year is upon us – full of promise and potential.  With the Christmas decor safely tucked away for another year, my home is looking just a little naked.  Combined with a LOT of time spent indoors (it was 2 degrees outside this morning!), this fact has me dreaming about sprucing up my home.

Newest Look in Quartz Surfaces

In the latest issue of Kitchen & Bath Business magazine, I found the latest look in quartz surfaces – patterns!  Manufactured by CaesarStone, this product makes use of a polished/unpolished finishing process to produce a pattern in the countertop surface.

Motivo comes in a couple different patterns – an animal print (similar to an alligator skin) and a wallpaper-like damask.  According to their website, the product is still non-porous and very low-maintenance.  Very interesting look, and something completely different.  While it’s not for every client and every space, I can definitely see applications for it!

I think it could be especially interesting in a commercial space – to dress up a boring ladies’ room or spice up a bar.  What do you think?  Is it something you could see in your home?  If so, where would you use it?

Flocked and Sanded

Flocked papers add style to any space!

Flocked papers add style to any space!

York Wallcoverings and Ron Redding Designs have some AMAZING new wallcoverings that you need to see!  Flocked papers are again all the rage, and when paired with fun color combos like lime green and gray, they offer a graphic and tactile pop to any room.  Other designs incorporate grains of sand or the glitter of recycled glass to the mix.  Check the flocked papers out here, and click on the links to see other patterns and textures.  Although these papers are not inexpensive, they also aren’t something you would want on every wall of a room (most of the time!).  One accent wall can be enough to transform a room very cost-effectively.  Leave your comments – I would love to know what you think of these new styles, or wallpaper in general!

Progress…

A sneak peek! I'll show you the finished product as soon as it's complete!

A sneak peek! I'll show you the finished product as soon as it's complete!

For those of you following the saga of my bathroom wall project, I wanted to post pics of the progress I have made this weekend. The paint is now complete! The paint I used is Vast Sky from Sherwin Williams. Except for the inevitable touch-up needed when I pull off the tape, that part of the project is finished! Good riddance, I say! Next on the agenda is sewing a new curtain for the window with some amazing fabric I found at Greenhouse Design – see it here.   As soon as I get that part of the project complete, I’ll post more pics! I think you will be amazed at the transformation from such a simple (if not time consuming) project.

Victorian Elegance

I have been working on a new construction project for nearly a year.  It’s not often that I have the opportunity to work on a new home in the Victorian style!  My clients have been fantastic to work with, and I have enjoyed the entire process.  The home is being built by Landsted, LLC, in Hudson, WI.  What a joy to see it come together!  Take a sneak peek at some of the pics I just snapped – the home is scheduled to be completed at the end of the month, and I will take some finished shots to share with you all.  The home is equipped with the latest in green technologies, allowing the lucky homeowners to drastically cut their heating and cooling bills, save water and reduce their overall energy consumption.  Even the granite used in the home has been harvested within 500 miles of the home.  I’ll have more information on the details of the home when I post photos of the completed project.  Let me know what you think so far!
